Tailored graded materials realised in space applications
Advanced part designs with tailored properties suitable for space components, reducing weight and improving functionality.
With the space industry innovating fast with clusters of small satellites as well as planned new missions to the moon and Mars, lightweighting and the multi-functionality of parts is extremely relevant today where functionally graded materials and electroformed engineering is useful for a range of applications. Ultima Forma has been working in the space sector for more than two years developing parts that benefit from our novel manufacturing process.

We expect to disrupt the status-quo of existing space hardware for Earth Observation, Telecommunication, Interplanetary or Exploration applications, thus reducing the cost and increasing the capacity of missions.

Parts that we are interested in developing with clients include:
• hydrogen and gas tank liners
• lightweight pipework
• lightweight satellite structures and spaceframes
• mechanisms and bracketry
• opto-mechanical release mechanisms
• hybrid material structures
• RF components, e.g. waveguides and antennas
• thermal systems – deployable heat exchangers
• propulsion system components

The design of parts is done in collaboration with clients, either with Ultima Forma designers or by training your designers on how to design for our electroformed structures.

With knowledge of materials science, physics, chemistry and engineering, you’ll be surprised by how we can either improve on your current designs or reimagine solutions based on our manufacturing process.
Contact us to share your challenges so we can assess how we might design and build parts which surpass your performance expectations.
